Tan Weiwei and Tibetan singer-actor Pu Bajia are working on location for a music video that, when completed, will be used as a promo for the Tibetan county of Shangri-La in southwestern Yunnan Province.
The video tells a romantic story between a princess and a young man, played by Tan Weiwei and Pu Bajia, and is set against the backdrop of the breathtaking local scenery.
Unlike Pu Bajia, Tan Weiwei is an ethnic Han who has developed a strong interest in the Tibetan culture. The 28-year-old has been a frequent visitor to the Tibetan Plateau for many years, and has become a helper for the entourage, that includes director Zhang Yibai ("Curiosity Kills the Cat" and "The Longest Night in Shanghai"), to deal with altitude sickness.
When not filming, Tan Weiwei assumes the role as a tourism guide, showing the crew around the picturesque Shangri-La.
Tan Weiwei's affinity for Tibetan culture can also be seen in her music. In 2005, she joined other Chinese singers to perform at the Golden Hall in Vienna. The song she sang was the famous "Qing Zang Gao Yuan" ("Qinghai-Tibet Plateau").
One year later, Tan Weiwei wowed domestic fans with several Tibetan-flavor songs while competing at the "Super Girl" singing contest. She ended up as that year's runner-up.
Tan Weiwei has also released a folk compilation album entitled "The Heart of Highland" with six other artists. |
